PostSubject: Arizona Ghostbusters Ecto-AZ Project (Pic Intense)   Wed Sep 03, 2008 4:12 am

Since I have this up on most forums, figured I'd post our ecto project here as well. There is an amazing amount of people working on ectos right now, even more amazing is the ones using the exact year and model. However we are going our own way with our ecto but it will be Our ecto, not The ecto.

She's a 1972 Pontiac Bonneville Superior Ambulance. She was found up in Colorado near the four corners, just off Route 666 and purchased for 1000 dollars. It's going to take alot more to get her finished. The engine was sold out of her a awhile back but otherwise she's complete. She has lots of little things like dents and spot rust that needs to be repaired. The back is still filled with bandages and other assorted medical supplies, as well as the transmission and exhaust. Though not a Caddy, the car has a lot of character and she'll help us be alot more complete team.

In her found location.

Interior

We will start by rebuilding the front end and replacing the front rotors and axle bearings, she has drum brakes in the rear and they seem fine for now. Because the engine was removed before we purchased the ambulance, the wiring was left in a shambles, but after much deliberation and continuity testing we restored the electrical not only to the cars basic functions but the emergency accessories as well. The flashing lights and rotating beacon worked great and the siren/PA system worked flawlessly. The engine, a 455 Pontiac will be installed soon after the front end is done, we will keep you posted.

Wheels off waiting for new rotors and bearings

Something is missing...for now.

The shop, family owned and operated, as you can see she's taller than the old blue Chevy Suburban sitting behind her.

Hydraulics and gold rims were considered, but instead we just got 4 brand new whitewalls today.

Just ordered the lightbars on Thursday.

Luckily, the owners dad owns the shop it's being restored at. So all parts are being bought at wholesale and the labor is being donated since we'll be using this for our charity events. Hopefully less than 10k. I think we're at 5k now. Thats including the new engine and parts, front end and brakes. Seems high but considering you can't buy a 59 caddy for less than 10k. More like 20-30k. When she's done, she'll be almost completely new mechanically so we won't be afraid to drive her. Hopefully by the end of the month she'll be getting the body and paint work done.

Just got the brand new Code 3 lightbars in. They're beautiful. We also have the blue lenses in to replace all of the red ones.

Just a small update on the car. The engine is very close to completion and should be dropped in the car soon. Right now we're test fitting the roof rack and light bars. We are going need to move the gumball machine light up just a bit to make room for the back light bar and rack. Most of the dents have been repaired and smoothed out. A paint job is coming soon as well.

Hard to see the roof rack with the background but it's there.

Here are the latest pics of the 455 being assembled. In other news the final body work is being completed and is being prepped for painting this week.
