Adrien Brody on the Set of Predators

Hola.com reportedly has a picture of Adrien Brody from the set of Predators in Hawaii.
They said he was on the phone during a shooting break and changed his clothes.

Jean-Claude Van Damme in original Predator creature suit

In 1987, Jean-Claude Van Damme landed the gig as the monster in Predator but it quickly went sour when he incurred the legendary wrath of 'Uberproducer' Joel Silver.

By Van Damme's account, Silver fired him because he dared to speak out about a stunt that would have been unsafe in the cumbersome creature suit. True to Van Damme's screen form, he wraps up the episode of revenge-fantasy catharsis: another actor was brought in to do the stunt and busted his ankle, after which the costume was redesigned. ("That's obviously Jean-Claude making up stories," a spokesman for Silver Pictures said bemusedly, insisting there were no injuries, no safety lapses and only mininal "uncomfortableness" with the suit.)

But according to an interview with director John McTiernan, one appearance of the Predator was played by Jean-Claude Van Damme in a special effects suit. Van Damme quit after two days, apparently unhappy with being cast as an uncredited special effect. The alien was scrapped, redesigned and was eventually played by 7'2" Kevin Peter Hall, who sadly died in April 1991.

In March 2008, in an interview with Avclub.com Jean Claude told about Predator:

"I was in that originally, it was obviously the first one. They did a cast of my body. My feet were in the cast of the alien. My hands were in the forearms, my head was in the neck. I was moving everything with cables. It was a very unsecure, very dangerous type of outfit. It didn't work for nobody. They put air conditioning into my back, because it was very hot in Mexico. So they did another outfit with a bigger guy, taller guy on the inside. So I was hired, then I was cancelled. But that helped for Bloodsport. It's a very funny story, because when I met Menahem Golan from Cannon, he heard about me playing the Predator, and he was very excited to sign me for Bloodsport. That helped me a lot. He didn't know I was an alien. He ain't going to see my face and my body. He thought I was the type of alien with a human face and body, where people would be able to recognize me. The studio gave me good money and helped me to stretch another year in Los Angeles."

You can see Jean Claude in the background wearing the red suit and John mc Tiernan, the director of Predator in the front:

Shows the original miniature Predator design and in the background the clipboard for the Predator story. You can see van Damme´s face which is the replacement for the Predator. The design of the Predator was not ready while they were shooting the movie and so the scripted the van Dammes face onto the storyboard:

Shows Van Damme in the first Predator Suit. Michel Qissi, who also played in Bloodsport the fighter Juan Parades and Tong Po in Kickboxer, is the best friend of Van Damme, helps him to get into the suit:

Predators Completes Hawaii Shoot

According to Tim Ryan's Reel Hawaii Predators has finished its 22 day shoot in tropical Hawaii:

"Twentieth Century Fox’s Predators starring Adrien Brody (below) wraps 22 days of filming today…In his off time Brody enjoyed the sunny Kona coast…"

Hawaii acted as the jungle of the planet that the group of characters are taken to by the Predators. Thanks to Johnny Handsome for the heads up.

More Predators Story Details

There's further news on Tim Ryan's Reel Hawaii which describes some of the scenes shot in Hawaii. They mention a scene where the characters are following a river, another scene with them discovering empty cages and wild dogs chasing after them.

Predators shot six days a week while here, some 22 days of the film’s total 53 days, which also is being done at producer Robert Martinez’s studio in Texas. All the five primary locations were on the Hilo side of the Big Island, including some Bishop Estate-Kamehameha Schools forest and jungle areas, a state road which had to be blocked for a scene at the Umauma River Bridge showing the cast walking along the river below, Kole Kole Beach Park, and the rocky ridge lookout at Waipio Valley off Highway 240…The Waipio Valley lookout scene was shot Oct. 26. That exterior shot follows the eight main characters approaching the rocky ridge from the adjacent jungle to get a view of “the alien plant.” Alice Braga who plays Isabelle tells the group in the scene that “the plan stays the same to follow river” towards the rocky ridge…In that scene Royce (Adrien Brody) definitively says the crew will go after the Berzerkers.

The production had one major location, which is privately owned — not the Kamehameha Schools location — on the mauka and makai side of the Highway 240. The Kole Kole Park location saw the eight-member cast following tracks in the jungle and first finding an empty cage with a parachute then some two-dozen other empty cages. It is during the chasing dogs scene that the group hears something crashing fast through jungle.

Stans (Walton Goggins, above) breaks down and demands a gun. Royce (Brody) tells the group “The sun hasn’t moved.” Then the group — knowing they’re in the “Hunting Dogs Area” according to the script — prepares weapons for “the imminent danger.” Suddenly, one member of the group sees nearby human forms.

They go on to say the Predator character wasn't used on the Big Island, neither was the wild dogs and instead requires CGI.

Arnold will be finished with his governator duties in January 2010, maybe he's prepared to filming his cameo appearance after that or earlier, who knows but hopefully it's the big surprise in the film.

The thing is if Arnold's cameo is also on the predator planet like I once read he should have a big role in the film, it would be stupid if he only appears and then got killed quickly or stays in his cave where he lives now for years.

Maybe he's also kidnapped years ago and has been survived all the time on the predator planet or maybe he just have a cameo on earth, we just have to find out when the film comes out.

Predators Script Leaked!

A recent draft of the Predators script has been leaked. You may remember Latino Review gave their impressions of it in September. It's the same script dated July 12, 2009 by Mike Finch and Alex Litvak. Read at your own risk...

http://www.sendspace.com/file/pha7i6

The script is certainly not as good as Latino Review painted it out to be. Especially with these "Black Super Predators" which may as well not be Predators at all in my opinion. If you get past them, it's an entertaining movie. The Predator dogs and falcons work pretty well in the script. There's references to the first movie like "If it bleeds we can kill it" etc. The worst part is the alternative ending with Arnie which is just plain ridiculous. I'll be praying Arnie declines the role.
