Because Sony wanted to make a lot of sequels they probably were making GB18 right now, if you readed the Ivan Reitman article you would understand. lol

There is a new generation of comedic actors that are coming up right now, so would (Ghostbusters
3) be sort of like passing the torch on?

Ivan Reitman:
Yeah. That is part of the story we're working on right now and we'll
see how it turns out. One of the reasons that there isn't Ghostbusters
18 right now, is that we're basically this family that all have an
equal voice in something, and the studio is one of five equal voices.
The studio would've liked to make a bunch of them and we've been really
quite selective. Really, any of us can kill it.

Ghostbusters 3 Round-Up - Including First Line of Dialogue?

Interest in Ghostbusting is at fever pitch, and the imminent launch of the original Ghostbusters film on Blu-Ray and the tie-in videogames must have something to do with it. All the same, genuine interest in the franchise is as high as any time in the last 20 years, at least, and stories revolving around the upcoming third installment are piling up thick and fast. After the break, a few bullet points that should bring you up to speed and, most excitingly, a look at what appears to be the first dialogue exchange from the next movie to become public knowledge. I’ll also toss in a fantastic rumour I’ve been hearing, but haven’t been able (yet) to substantiate. What fun would leaving it out be, though?

* The screenplay by Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitksy still hasn’t been delivered yet, but is imminent. A running-draft or treatment has been at least shared with Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis because they’ve gone on to discuss it with the rest of us (see below, for example).
* Ivan Reitman has told MTV that, actually, he’s willing to think about directing the next Ghostbusters film. Aykroyd had previously named Ramis as his pick to take the director’s chair if Reitman was “too busy”.
* A five-way jury hold veto over any Ghostbusters film. Reitman is one party, three more are Murray, Ramis and Aykroyd, and the fifth is Columbia Pictures. If any of these want to nix the project, they can. It seems this would also apply to films that the individual would not be involved in - say, if Reitman wasn’t set to direct, or one of the actors not set appear, they could still wield the axe.
* I was sent an e-mail from a source inside the industry who wanted to relate a little Ghostbusters 3 gossip. According to them, Jake Kasdan wants the directing gig. As in actively wants it and, I would assume, is pursuing it. If the job was mine to give, I’d be putting a bow on it for him now.
* Empire magazine published the following passage in which Harold Ramis appears to share the first line of dialogue from the film.

I’m intrigued by my idea for where Egon has been. He’s been working in the International Institute For Imaginary Science, in Geneva. He’s evolved a post-rational, non-conclusive logic for dealing with problems of chaos. Someone asks him ‘What does that mean?’ and he says ‘There are no spatial, conceptual or intellectual models to describe it - so we don’t know.’ Egon’s gone so abstract, even he doesn’t know what he’s doing!

* In the same article, Aykroyd says that “hopefully [Alyssa] Milano will be playing the same character she does in the game”. That’s Dr. Ilyssa Selwyn, who they describe as a “love interest”. That he then mentions Eliza Dushku, directly after this, suggests that they would not be competing for the same role.

Harold Ramis Talks Ghostbusters 3 Status!

With the original 2 GHOSTBUSTERS films about to come out on Blu-Ray, interest in the property is currently at a fever pitch! And fans have been eagerly anticipating the proposed GHOSTBUSTERS 3 ever since it was announced that screenwriters Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky (THE OFFICE) were tapped to write the script. Coming Soon.net caught up with Harold Ramis, who's out promoting his latest directorial effort YEAR ONE. Here's what he had to say on the status of GHOSTBUSTERS 3:

"I wrote the story for the new movie with them, and Dan and I've been consulting. We're just waiting to see a first draft and where we are. Everyone says they'll do it, they've all said they'll do it. No one has signed anything yet--we haven't signed anything either--but there's the spirit of willingness in the air."

Rumor has it that Ivan Reitman, helmer of the first 2 GHOSTBUSTERS features may be too busy to tackle the 3rd picture. Considering Ramis is now an established director in his own right, it seems like a given that he'd be next in line to step behind the camera. He tells Coming Soon, "I'm not sure I want to (direct). It's just a lot of open questions. Until we see a script, I don't think anyone really knows how they feel about it. Everyone's open to doing it, that's the main thing, that's what got it moving forward."

Most early reports indicate that while all original Ghostbusters cast members will be returning (including Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson and Dan Akyroyd), there will be new Ghostbusters joining the family. Ramis confirms this. "Oh, yeah. There will be new Ghostbusters. It's not about us running around. We'll be introducing new people."

Make sure to check out the official GHOSTBUSTERS website at: http://www.ghostbusters.com and check out the trailer for the Blu-Ray!

The original GHOSTBUSTERS was directed by Ivan Reitman from a script by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis, and starred Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson, Rick Moranis and Annie Potts.

Harold Ramis says maybe on ‘Ghostbusters’

Actor-director says the film will only be made if the script is good

Harold Ramis, along with “Year One” screenwriters Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, who also write for NBC’s “The Office,” are hard at work on the first draft of the screenplay for “Ghostbusters 3.”

But the actor-director-writer told Access Hollywood the movie, which is slated to introduce a whole new generation of Ghostbusters, will only be made if the script is good.

“There’s a story that I wrote with my co-writer’s on this film, Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky. The studio has commissioned the screenplay,” Ramis recently told Access while promoting his new comedy “Year One.” “All the principals (Sigourney Weaver, Bill Murray and Ernie Hudson) have said they’re in, if we get a good screenplay.”

Though a script is in the works, a movie in the theaters is not a sure thing. Ramis wants the third movie to live up to its predecessors.

“But, we’re all reserving judgment,” he continued. “There’s no reason to do it if it’s not good.”

And though Dan Aykroyd recently said that he hopes stars such as Alyssa Milano and Eliza Dushku sign on to join the ghost-fighting team’s second-generation squad, Ramis said casting is a long way off.

“We want to introduce new Ghostbusters,” he explained. “I think (Aykroyd) was just throwing out examples of the kind of people who could be in the film.”

He added, “Hopefully the story will feel enough like the old one to revive and sustain people’s interests, but new enough to deliver some surprises.”

‘Ghostbusters 3′ May Get Reitman, May Get Ramis

At this weekend’s “Year One” press junket, MTV’s Josh Horowitz got to spend some quality time with the always-affable writer/director/ghosbuster Harold Ramis. As most of you probably know, “Ghostbusters 3″ has been on the lips of Ramis and his cohort Dan Aykroyd for quite some time.

First they were calling the video game, which releases this week(!), the “official” third “Ghostbusters” movie. Then things went a step further, with the revelation that “Year One” co-writers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky are in fact working on the script for a third movie.

Most recently, we heard the original “Ghostbusters” director Ivan Reitman may in fact return to helm the still-truckin’ project. For fans of Stay-Puft Marshmallow Men, free-roaming vapors and hilarious quotables like “Get her!,” this is roughly the greatest news ever. Ramis shared a bit of his own sordid history with the “Ghostbusters” director, as they — along with John Landis — jockeyed through the ’80s, delivering classic comedy after classic comedy.

Speaking on the “Ghostbusters 3″ director’s role, Ramis said “[Reitman and I are] both in the same position. Unfortunately, it started with ‘Animal House.’ John Landis directed ‘Animal House,’ but both Ivan and I wanted to direct it. Ivan did ‘Meatballs’ right after I did Caddyshack.’ Right after he did ‘Stripes,’ I did ‘Vacation.’ He did ‘Ghostbusters.’” It’s interesting to note that Ramis may not have directed those Reitman films, but he did write them.

What does all of this mean? Only that both filmmakers are strong possibilities for the directing gig. As Ramis said, “it’s not like we compete with each other, but I’m sure we’re both viable candidates. If he didn’t want to do it, I think everyone assumes I might be able to or capable of it.”

Not a competition, eh? What if they both want the gig? “I’m sure he has dibs on it. He did the other two,” Ramis replied. Fair enough, Egon. Fair enough.

Which would you prefer, Ramis or Reitman? And is there really any difference when we’re dealing with such talented comedic minds?

Year One Director Harold Ramis on Ghostbusters 3

Q: Maybe you can save it for Year Two.

A: There you go. Year One, 2. It sort of begs for Exodus, doesn't it? But I'm not sure I want to take on the Moses story. I never think of sequels anyway, which is ironic because everyone is talking about Ghostbusters.

Q: Does anyone ever try to debate the science of the proton pack with you?

A: No, we made an effort to understand the science of it ourselves. Dan [Aykroyd] and I are pretty good at pseudo-science. We can both write convincingly about these things. In fact I've been thinking of Spengler in the sequel as having spent the last several years working at the Institute for Imaginary Science in Geneva. The work they've been doing can't be explained in any perceptual, conceptual spatial or intellectual model that is currently known. So even we don't know what we've been doing.

Q: Dan Aykroyd has described the Ghostbusters video game coming out this week like it's a sequel to Ghostbusters 2. Do you agree?

A: It's funny, I never thought of it that way. The people involved are huge Ghostbusters fans. They initiated the project and really laid it out -- we get credited as writers, but it occurred to me it's actually ghostwritten. [Laughs] We contributed a lot and we had input on our final dialogue as we recorded it, but I can't say we wrote it. But it does feel like a movie -- my sons fired up the game, and it opened up like you're watching a Ghostbusters movie. Of course whenever my son got frustrated with the game, he'd shoot Venkman or Stantz with the proton pack.

Q: Why aren't you writing the screenplay to Ghostbusters 3?

A: I will share the story credit for this movie with Gene [Stupintsky] and Lee [Eisenberg]. Dan consulted on the story to some extent -- Ivan [Reitman] looked at everything. I won't say I'm skeptical, I'm just not counting on anything. For me, I've loved the Ghostbusters -- the whole concept of it has been great in my life. I'm happy to do another movie if the script was worthy. If it never happened I'd be fine.

It's funny how Bill Murray was promoting City of Ember and now Harold Ramis promoting Year One they ask more questions about GBIII, I don't think they will ask more questions of a City of Ember or Year One sequel when GBIII comes out. lol

Sigourney Weaver on 'Ghostbusters 3' and 'Alien' Prequel

Here's one of the great things about Sigourney Weaver: She's probably cool with me using an old pic from Aliens with this post instead of one from her new project, the Lifetime movie Prayers for Bobby.

I spoke with Weaver for TV Squad recently about the Emmy buzz for her performance in Prayers for Bobby and her future TV projects. She also talked about some of her iconic film roles. I asked the three-time Oscar nominee if she'd ever consider revisiting some of those roles, like Ellen Ripley from Aliens and Ghostbuster's Dana Barrett. I found her answers to be quite surprising. Here's what she had to say:

Mike Moody: The rumor is you might revisit one of your famous comedy roles, Dana Barrett, in another Ghostbusters sequel. Where do you think Dana and Peter Venkman's relationship will be when the new movie picks up?

Sigourney Weaver: Probably non-existent.

Really?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure. I think they're still writing it, but (laughs) I'd be very surprised ... You never know. I just did a benefit with Bill (Murray), and we love working together, but I think they're trying to create something new completely with the Ghostbusters, although I know Bill is in it. I hope my little son Oscar (from Ghostbusters II) is a Ghostbuster!

So, you won't be appearing in the movie?

No, I don't expect to have anything to do with it, although I wish them well.

Let's talk a bit about Alien. How do you feel about Ellen Ripley recently being named one of the most important science fiction and fantasy heroines of all time by the Web site Total Sci-Fi?

Oh, I didn't know that, but that's great. I was very pleased that MTV named her the second biggest badass in movie history, although I think she could take on Dirty Harry. That was cool. And it is the 30th anniversary of the first film. I love Ellen Ripley. She was a fascinating person to play in each incarnation and a great opportunity for a young actor.

Do you have any interest in being part of the planned Alien prequel movie, or appearing in the franchise ever again?

Well, I don't think that Ripley could appear in an Alien prequel because she doesn't have any access to the creature until the first Alien. But Ridley (Scott) is producing it and that makes me happy. I wasn't thrilled with the whole Alien Vs. Predator thing. I never saw them, but one of the reasons I died in (Alien) 3 was to not have anything to do with those (laughs). Just because, you know, I think it just seemed so economically motivated somehow. I feel we did four good movies, and I'm content with that. I hope if they do something new, they will encompass the idea of where the alien first came from, because I think that's an interesting idea -- to find out what happened and "how did it get to us?".

I know women who look up to you. My wife recently told me that she doesn't want to be Susie Homemaker, she wants to be Ellen Ripley. Growing up and studying acting, did you ever think you'd be playing such strong, iconic roles, such women of integrity?

I remember when they offered me the role of Ripley I was a little ambivalent and I remember thinking "Well, we don't get to do Henry V, so this is my Henry V." I think that when you're in an action movie it's great to mentally draw on all kinds of inspiration from theater and wherever, because you really need to animate a genre which is quite spare ... The fact was that we women never got to play these warriors and never got to play these leaders, and Ripley was that. And she was a great everyman kind of character, even though she was a woman. I think she represented the normal, ordinary person in extremis ... And she changes a lot in each one. It was a fascinating series to be a part of.

Michael Cera Has No Interest In Ghostbusters 3, Jack Black Would Bust Ghosts If He Could

Source: http://www.slashfilm.com/2009/06/17/michael-cera-has-no-interest-in-ghostbusters-3-jack-black-would-bust-ghosts-if-he-could/

Even before a third Ghostbusters film was officially announced, I heard rumors that Year One/The Office scribes Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky were working on a script and that they were writing a role for Year One star Michael Cera. While the details of Eisenberg and Stupnitsky’s role in the project turned out to be true, and quickly spread around the world, nothing has ever been said about Cera’s possible involvement.

When Moviefone asked the actor if he was interested in being involved in the Year One scribe’s Ghostbusters 3, Cera was quick to squash the idea:

No. I don’t think so. ‘Ghostbusters’ is too important for me to try and be one. I would feel like a phony. I would feel like an impostor.

On the other hand, his Year One co-star Jack Black said he’d be interested.

Could I see myself in it? Yeah, I can bust some ghosts! I ain’t afraid of no ghosts! Buster. [Laughs]

Now again, this is all very speculative. There isn’t even a completed script. Black asaying he would be interested does not mean that he’s ever talked to Ramis, Eisenberg, Stupnitsky or anyone about the possibiliy. I want to make this clear because some sleazy news outlets are spinning Black’s quote and claiming that he’s been lobbying Ramis for a role in the new movie. Not so.

The above two responses are the exact opposite of what I hoped for. Cera’s nerdy awkwardness seems perfectly fit for a next Generation of Ghostbusters, while Black seems like an example of what I fear Ghostbusters 3 could become. No offense to Black, I loved him in School of Rock and High Fidelity, but his loud crazy man act belongs no where near the ecto chamber. Plus we’ve already seen Black in a Ghostbusters remake directed by Michel Gondry. For those who don’t remember, or never saw, watch the video clip embedded below from Be Kind Rewind.

Weaver Out Of Ghostbusters Sequel

Sigourney Weaver has pulled out of the second Ghostbusters sequel.
The actress was reported to be joining former co-stars Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd in a spooky new movie, 20 years after Ghostbusters II - but she insists she isn't part of producers' plans.
The actress tells TVSquad.com, "I think they're trying to create something new completely with the Ghostbusters, although I know Bill is in it. I don't expect to have anything to do with it, although I wish them well."
Aykroyd has suggested the new film, in which the original Ghostbusters hand over control of their spook-chasing responsibilities to a team of hot young ladies, could start shooting before the end of the year.
