PostSubject: Ivan Reitman on Ghostbusters 3: “It’s now official and everybody’s in it!”   Sat Oct 10, 2009 11:52 pm

Ivan Reitman has spoken: Ghostbuster 3 is on it’s way.
“For the first time” said the director and producer of the first two movies “possibilities are more positive than negative. Before we needed some twist to be able to make it, now if there isn’t any other major change we will do it”.

Rumors that were circulating for long finally got confirmation in Sitges, the fantasy festival that takes place in the omonymous spanish village near Barcelona since 1967. In this same festival Reitman won an award for his first movie, Cannibal Girls, and here this year he’s going to receive an honorary award, so as it is natural here he made this announcement.

It took so long to come to a decision about the new Ghostbusters because all the rights holders were able to say their word on the plot, and they’re a lot! “It’s never easy to bring all these people to an agreement on something” says the director, but now there’s a script, a definitive one, complete and approved.

Not only the long awaited sequel is coming, all the original cast will be in it: “The project needs the presence of everyone” including Sigourney Weaver?? “Including Sigourney Weaver!” confirms Reitman.
Not even a word can be said on the plot: “I will never tell you what’s like”, but surely Ivan Reitman will direct once again and for sure the story won’t be the same as the new videogame. Reitman got nothing to do with its development apart for the final approval (which came easily), but anyway the game (which an heavily involved in the production Dan Aykroyd some moths ago called “the third Ghostbusters’ movie”) had optimus influence on the final green light for Ghostbusters 3: “[The videogame's] big success convinced many of the people involved in the production that there’s still engagement with ghosts busting”.

We won’t know the plot but at least will it be similar to the past two or not? “The second movie was some kind of exploitation of the first but was too heavily based on special effects, in that way losing grip on what were the driving forces of the first: characters and jokes. This is something I still regret and now I’d like to pay tribute to those wonderful characters with this new one”.

In the end there’s still time for Be Kind Rewind and its sweded Ghostbusters: “I’ve seen it, and appreciated the sentiment, but definetly didn’t like it. And I know this is going to disappoint a lot of people”.
In the last rows of the press room there was also Ruben Fleischer, director of Zombieland (which has a lot of inside jokes about Ghostbusters and even some footage from the original films), when the conference was over he asked mr. Reitman for a picture.

PostSubject: Ghosbusters 3 starting at a place of weaknes   Sun Oct 11, 2009 10:12 am

There was a lot that went wrong with Ghostbusters II, but one of the biggest problems the film had was that it was almost a remake of the first movie. The decision to open with the Ghostbusters laid low so that they could once again be underdogs was a poor, poor choice, and it hobbles the whole picture.

So of course Ghostbusters 3 is doing the same thing, at least according to Bloody Disgusting. The main hook for their latest Ghostbusters story is that Ivan Reitman is 100% confirmed to be somehow involved with the new film, whether it be as a producer or a director, but I don't really find that newsworthy. Here's the news:

Apparently, the sequel takes place when the paranormal researchers "reopen" their ghost removal service after it has been closed for quite a few years.

Ugh! This is the wrong place to start! The new film needs to begin with the Ghostbusters as a continuing business, not getting in from the ground level for the third time. As far as I'm concerned this means that Ghostbusters 3 is going to be nothing more than yet another remake of the third film and that The Office writers Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg are going to be Year One-ing this film - ie, making it terrible. Let's hope that I'm just overreacting to early and erroneous information. I'd love to offer an official apology to all involved if Ghostbusters 3 actually moves the concept and characters forward in new, unique and fun ways.

Some Ghostbusters 3 chatter today. Even suggestions that I direct. You don't want me directing GB. It would be all talk and no busting.

Sigourney Weaver always told us she won't be back for GBIII and now in this article Reitman confirms she's back?

Reitman doesn't say that Rick Moranis is in it but he say that “The project needs the presence of everyone” and that all the original cast will be in it, so does this means Moranis is back?
He also didn't said that Annie Potts is back too but we probably know 100% for sure she's in it, hopefully William Atherton as Walter Peck is also back for GBIII.

WTF?

There’s also this rumor that there’s no funding for Ghostbusters 3, but we’ll that we’ll get to later.

Ernie Hudson: Ghostbusters 3 Coming in 2011

It’s becoming increasingly difficult to keep up with all the stuff that’s “officially” being said about Ghostbusters 3. Whenever someone new speaks up, whatever comes out is entirely different from what the last person said. Heck, even from day to day, the same people change their statements on whether or not the movie is actually happening or not. Stop confusing me already!

The latest to chime in is the fourth Ghostbuster, Ernie Hudson, who assures us that Ghostbusters 3 will indeed happen and not only that, but the movie will be ready by 2011.

“Ivan [Reitman] said its going to happen and if anybody knows, he does. I think probably we’re going to shoot in the fall, this is what I’m told, and it’ll probably come out in May, 2011.”

So there you go, ladies and gentlemen, Ghostbusters 3 is starting shooting this fall and will be ready by 2011! That is, until tomorrow when the next official word appears that there will be no movie or that they aren’t sure of whether or not any of the cast will actually return. However, I think this is the first time Hudson has spoken out about the movie, so this is slightly more legit than the 100th confusing statement by Bill Murray. What do you think, will Ghostbusters 3 ever actually happen, or will the bullshit just keep on flowing out for a few more years until it’s cancelled? Speak up in the comments.

Dan Aykroyd believes in ghosts, semi-confirms ‘Ghostbusters 3′

As for the possibility of a Ghostbusters 3 - Dan said it was probably a go. “Two years ago I’d have to say no. Now it looks pretty good.”

Dan Aykroyd Says Bill Murray Likes Ghostbusters 3 Just Fine

I imagine you're as sick of I am of hearing various rumors about Ghostbusters 3 from the stars of the original film, none of whom can seem to agree with each other on whether or not the script is any good or even if the movie will happen. In one corner we've got cranky Bill Murray, who two weeks ago claimed there wasn't a script at all. In the other we have cheerleader Dan Aykroyd, who gets asked about the movie everywhere he goes and usually responds with something optimistic about the script or the idea to include new Ghostbusters.

So score one in the "optimism" column, as Aykroyd ran into reporters from New York Magazine and told them that Bill Murray in fact likes the script. And as for actually getting the movie made, "I think we're closer than we've ever been. Two years ago, I would've said there was no chance. Now it's looking pretty good."

And while we've known for a while that there would be new, young Ghostbusters, and some of them would be female, Aykroyd expressed his ideal gender mix for the team: "I hope it's a nice mix, maybe two guys and two girls. We'll find some great young actors. We're probably going to search for unknowns." So four Ghostbusters, just like the original team? Works for us, but we'll still only believe this movie when we see Aykroyd and company back in costume.

Dan Aykroyd confident there will be a new Ghostbusters movie

Dan Aykroyd says he is confident there will be a new Ghostbusters movie

The Hollywood funnyman told Larry King Live: "You know, two years ago, I would have to say that it was not really a possibility, but now it is looking really good. We are headed towards getting a production number really soon."

Asked if the original cast, which included Bill Murray and Sigourney Weaver, would be back, he replied: "Absolutely, of course. We really could not move forward unless everyone was involved in some capacity way or another.

"But really it is about passing the torch to a new generation; the hernia mesh is failing, my hip is sore, I can't carry the pack anymore, my eyesight is gone. Driving that big Cadillac, I cant do that anymore. We need kids to come up and help us, cadets."
